Government of Canada announces funding for two Francophone groups in New Brunswick

GRANDE-DIGUE, July 31, 2003 -- Dominic LeBlanc, Member of Parliament (Beauséjour Petitcodiac), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $40,000 for two Francophone groups in New Brunswick.

"The development of the Acadian and Francophone culture is important to the Government of Canada," said Mr. LeBlanc. "Groups that are dedicated to the promotion and development of the Francophonie in official-language minority communities are key partners. Together, we will establish a strong and proud legacy for future generations."

The Société culturelle Sud-Acadie and the Société culturelle de Kent-Sud Inc. will each receive $20,000 to present cultural activities and workshops featuring Acadian and Francophone artists.

Financial support is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Canada-Acadian Community Agreement of the Official Languages Support Programs. The five-year Canada-Community Agreements (1999-2004) support the development of the official-language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec).

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
