Government of Canada announces funding for the Regional Association of West Quebecers

AYLMER, August 18, 2003 -- Marcel Proulx, Member of Parliament (Hull Aylmer), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $123,900 to the Regional Association of West Quebecers. The funding will help finance the organization's plans to improve support and communication tools for the English-speaking population of West Quebec.

"The Government of Canada prioritizes support for organizations that assist linguistic minorities," said Mr. Proulx. "I'm pleased that the Association's activities allow the English-speaking population of West Quebec full access to a wide range of high-quality services."

The Regional Association of West Quebecers will continue to develop information and communications tools aimed at the English-speaking community. The Association anticipates working even more closely with the region's various English-speaking institutions.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Canada-Community Agreements. These five-year (1999-2004) agreements support the development of the official-language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec).

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
