Government of Canada announces funding for the Conseil communautaire Étoile de L'Acadie

SYDNEY, September 4, 2003 -- Mark Eyking, Member of Parliament (Sydney Victoria), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $58,000 for the Conseil communautaire Étoile de l'Acadie.

"The Government of Canada is committed to supporting groups that promote the development of Francophone communities in Canada," said Mr. Eyking. "This partnership with the community is important in order to ensure access for all Canadians to services in the language of their choice."

The funding will enable the Conseil communautaire Étoile de l'Acadie to hold a series of initiatives that will increase participation in activities organized through its community centre. As well, the Conseil will seek to ensure that all Francophones in the region are aware of their rights and have increased access to services, resources, and programs in French.

Financial support is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs. The five-year Canada-Community Agreements (1999-2004) support the development of the official-language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec).

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
