Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Association bénévole de Bellevue

BELLEVUE, October 6, 2003 -- Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Wascana), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $12,000 for the Association bénévole de Bellevue Inc. to help finance a new seniors' centre.

"Promoting the development of Francophone communities in Saskatchewan and across Canada is a priority for the Government of Canada," said Minister Goodale. "This important initiative will allow Francophone seniors living in the Bellevue area to come together and share common interests in their first language."

The funding will enable the Association bénévole de Bellevue Inc. to pursue Phase 4 (call for submissions) and final Phases 5 and 6 (overseeing construction) of a centre for seniors living in the region of Bellevue.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs. The five-year Canada-Community Agreements (1999-2004) support the development of the official-language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec).

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
