Government of Canada Announces Funding for the FrancoFête en Acadie

MONCTON, November 6, 2003 -- Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament (Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $70,000 for the FrancoFête en Acadie.

"The Government of Canada is committed to supporting groups that are dedicated to the development of the Acadian and Francophone cultures," said Minister Bradshaw. "Cultural events such as the FrancoFête en Acadie offer all citizens the opportunity to share in the bonds that define and link us."

The funding will enable the group to assume a portion of the costs associated with the Coup de coeur francophone en Acadie, Gala des prix Étoiles, and Art en direct.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Strategic Development Fund component of the Official Languages Support Programs. This financial assistance supports the Official Languages Action Plan, announced in March 2003, which reaffirmed the Government of Canada's commitment to linguistic duality in Canada by strengthening its support to the development of official-language minority communities.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
