Government of Canada Announces Funding for Fête Fransaskoise

REGINA, November 17, 2003 -- Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Wascana), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $45,000 for Fête fransaskoise inc., to develop new planning, financial, and organizational capacity.

"Canada's linguistic duality is one of the foundations of Canadian identity, and the creation and promotion of arts, heritage, and culture in both official languages help strengthen this foundation," said Minister Goodale. "The Government of Canada is committed to helping arts organizations, working in either official language, to maintain stability and develop capacity so they can focus on what they do best: create and present great art."

Fête fransaskoise inc. is being supported through two Canadian Heritage programs: $25,000 under the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program and $20,000 under the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs.

The Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program supports modern management and greater financial stability in arts and heritage organizations, and the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs support the development of the official-language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec).

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
