Government of Canada announces funding to Corporation du Collège Mathieu

GRAVELBOURG, November 21, 2003 -- Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Wascana), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $30,000 for the Corporation du Collège Mathieu in Saskatchewan.

"One of the Government of Canada's priorities is to promote the growth and development of Francophone communities across Canada," said Minister Goodale. "This funding will enhance the Corporation du Collège Mathieu's capacity to develop and deliver training programs to enable more Saskatchewan Francophones to learn in French."

The funding will support the delivery of the Programme de formation aux organismes of the Service fransaskois de formation aux adultes which, under the auspices of the Corporation du Collège Mathieu, offers training in French to employees and volunteers of regional and provincial Francophone associations.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs. The five-year Canada-Community Agreements (1999-2004) support the development of the official-language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec).

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
