Minister of Canadian Heritage announces the creation of a committee to strengthen ties with Quebec's Anglophone community

OTTAWA, November 28, 2003 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the creation of the Canadian Heritage and Quebec Anglophone Community Coordination Committee. This announcement is part of the Department of Canadian Heritage's commitment to the ongoing development of official-language minority communities, and the promotion of French and English within Canadian society.

"The Department of Canadian Heritage plays an important role in areas that concern the Anglophone community," said Minister Copps. "Increased consultation between Quebec's Anglophone community and the Department will help strengthen our cooperation and allow for a better exchange of information from which we will all benefit."

The Coordination Committee will ensure a better connection between the issues and priorities of the Anglophone community and the policies and programs of Canadian Heritage.

The Canadian Heritage and Quebec Anglophone Community Coordination Committee will be composed equally of representatives of various sectors of the Department of Canadian Heritage and of the Anglophone community. The Committee has a two-year mandate, and is expected to meet twice a year. A similar committee for Francophone communities in a minority situation already exists.
