Government of Canada Supports the Fédération des agriculteurs et agricultrices francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick

EDMUNDSTON, January 26, 2004 -- Dr. Jeannot Castonguay, Member of Parliament (MadawaskaÑRestigouche), on behalf of the Honourable Hélène Chalifour Scherrer, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced funding of $33,600 for the Fédération des agriculteurs et agricultrices francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick.

"Strong and dynamic communities help make Canada a great place to live," said Dr. Castonguay. "The Government of Canada is committed to supporting groups that promote the development of Francophone communities. This financial assistance will enable the organization to support the development of the Acadian and Francophone heritage in New Brunswick."

The funding will allow the Fédération to plan its activities for the next five years.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs. The five-year Canada-Community Agreements (1999Ñ2004) support the development of the official-language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec).

In addition, this funding announcement supports the Official Languages Action Plan, announced in March 2003, which reaffirmed the Government of Canada's commitment to linguistic duality in Canada.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
