Government of Canada supports Assemblée des aînées et aînés francophones du Canada

SHÉDIAC, November 23, 2004 -- Member of Parliament (Beauséjour) Dominic Leblanc, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced $100,000 in funding for the Assemblée des aînées et aînés francophones du Canada (AAFC). The funds will enable the organization to carry out its planned activities for the year 2004-05 and to forge stronger ties with its partners.

"The AAFC is the voice of Francophone seniors," said Mr. Leblanc. "We must support it so that all those who built our country can continue their valuable work to nurture the French language in Canada."

"Throughout the country, our seniors share their experiences for the benefit of future generations," said Minister Frulla. "I am delighted that our government is able to support the Assemblée des aînées et aînés francophones du Canada and that its members are provided the means to contribute to the development of their communities."

AAFC was founded in 1992. Its mission is to contribute to the development, upgrading and delivery of services for seniors living in Francophone and Acadian minority communities in all regions of Canada. AAFC represents more than half a million Francophone seniors across the country.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Community Life component of the Development of Official-Language Communities Program.

Funding announced today was provided for in the March 2004 federal budget.
