Government of Canada Supports Three New Brunswick Community Groups

MONCTON, September 1, 2005 -- Minister of State (Human Resources Development) and Member of Parliament (Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe) Claudette Bradshaw, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced $230,500 in funding to three New Brunswick community groups: the Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles, the Fédération des jeunes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick and the Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s. du Nouveau-Brunswick.

"I am proud to support these groups that play a key role in New Brunswick's Acadian and Francophone community by contributing, in many ways, to its development," said Minister of State Bradshaw.

"This funding demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to helping official-language communities living in a minority situation to maintain their vitality and to continue to grow and flourish," added Minister Frulla. "I am pleased to support these organizations."

Of the funding announced today, the Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles will receive $78,000 to present its 2005-2006 cultural programming. It includes events such as the Festival de théâtre communautaire en Acadie and the Semaine provinciale de développement culturel. The Conseil was created in 1971 with the mandate to encourage the cultural expression of the Acadian and Francophone community in New Brunswick. Along with its member partners, the group supports the development of the province's Acadian and Francophone artists and presents cultural events throughout the province.

The Fédération des jeunes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick will receive $140,000 for its 2005-2006 annual programming. For more than 30 years, the FJFNB has been the voice of New Brunswick's Acadian and Francophone youth. The group focuses mainly on assimilation, rural-to-urban migration, community development, and la Francophonie on an international scale.

The Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick will receive $12,500 to begin the process of establishing general assemblies of the arts and culture in Acadie. Created in 1990, the Association's mission is to promote the rights and interests of artists.

Funding was provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Development of Official-Language Communities Program.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal Budget.
