Government of Canada Renews Support for ZOF MontréalOTTAWA, November 24, 2005 -- The Honourable Mauril Bélanger, Minister for Internal Trade, Deputy Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, Minister responsible for Official Languages, and Associate Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Honourable Liza Frulla, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women, today announced $300,000 in funding for the Fédération culturelle canadienne-française (FCCF) and its ZOF Montréal promotion office. Spread over three years, the funds will enable ZOF Montréal to raise the profile of Francophone artists and authors from all parts of Canada in Quebec's cultural scene."ZOF Montréal is a gateway to the Montréal and Quebec markets for Francophone artists, authors, producers, and distributors across Canada," said Minister Bélanger. "I am proud to support this initiative, which will enrich Quebec's cultural landscape." "Artists are the lifeblood of our culture, and it is important to provide them with concrete ways to showcase their talent and reach as many people as possible," said Minister Frulla. "This is what ZOF Montréal does by making it possible for Canadian Francophone artists to take part in a variety of major cultural activities in Quebec." Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Community Life component of its Development of Official-Language Communities Program and its Book Publishing Industry Development Program. Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
