Canada-Community Agreement of Nova Scotia projects announced

HALIFAX, May 15, 1996 Five projects valued at almost $60,000 were recently approved under the new Canada-Community Agreement of Nova Scotia for the development of the Acadian Community in the Province.

The announcement was made today by Acting Minister of Canadian Heritage and Member of Parliament for St-Henri-Westmount, Lucienne Robillard, and George Cottreau, on behalf of the Acadian Community of Nova Scotia.

Projects funded under this Agreement will permit the Acadian Community to better plan its own development and expand on priorities it deems appropriate. Those priorities will be set by the Acadian community at the beginning of each fiscal year.

List of projects:

Fédération des parents acadiens de la N.-É. (2 projects) $24,670
Le club Richelieu de Clare $1,670
Comité provincial des jeux de l'Acadie, région N-É, Inc. $6,000
Les araignées du Boui-Boui $27,500

Funding for this project was provided for in the March 1996 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework. This initiative is an example of how this government is prioritizing its spending so that it can better serve Canadians by making efficient use of their tax dollars.
