Description
This exhibit will illustrate the historical evolution of three symbols that today form part of the identity of the community of Transcona: the railway, Hi Neighbour Sam, and the Flamingo. This three-part exhibit will emphasize the historical origins of the symbols (industrial and commercial beginnings), integration into the community life of Transcona (appearance in local culture), popularization as community events, rise to iconic status (public and commercial art), as well as their symbolic presence in the community today. This professional exhibit will bring to life the history, stories, and community spirit of Transcona and provide visitors with a better understanding of the origins, importance and place of these symbols in the cultural identity of Transcona today.
