Multilateral human rights treaties to which Canada is a party

This list includes only those treaties, such as covenants, conventions, protocols, that are subject to accession or ratification by States. It does not deal with other types of documents, such as declarations and recommendations. The list is divided in four categories; each in chronological order of the adoption of the documents. Unless indicated otherwise, the date given is the date of the adoption of the document.

In international law, a signature does not usually bind a State. The treaty is usually subject to a future ratification, acceptance, approval or accession. When becoming party to a treaty, a State must execute, in good faith, the provisions of the treaty subject to the reservations it may have made.
