Canadian Forces Cormorant Helicopters Resume Normal Operations

NR 2006-07-18 - July 18, 2006

Winnipeg, Man. — Positive airworthiness information has prompted the return to normal Search and Rescue (SAR) operations for the CH-149 Cormorant Helicopter, effective today.

“After assessing the situation, the restrictions to the fleet for SAR operations only will be lifted to allow for training whereby crew proficiency can be maintained,” said Major-General Charles Bouchard, Commander 1 Canadian Air Division.  “I am very confident that our well-trained and professional crews will continue to provide a high level of SAR service across the country.”

The Canadian Forces continued to conduct Search and Rescue operations to save lives even after the tragic loss within the SAR community. The temporary operational pause was for SAR training only. We are unable to release more details due to the ongoing investigation.
