Captain Hunter, a member of the Canadian Forces, is known for the numerous contributions he has made to his community, Veterans' organizations and Veterans. |
OTTAWA – In April 2001 Her Majesty the Queen approved the design of a special bar to be worn with decorations to be known as the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation.
The Governor General has issued a Warrant creating this award, and the governing policies call for it to be "...awarded to individuals who have performed commendable service to the Veteran community and /or individuals who represent commendable role models for their fellow veterans." The award is intended primarily for veterans, though in rare circumstances non-veterans may be considered for a commendation.
Several Canadian Forces members have received the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation since 2002, including most recently, Warrant Officer William Ford of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Some other members who received commendation include Captain Terry Hunter, 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron, CFB Gagetown, Harold Leduc, a retired CF member, and Lieutenant-Commander Gerald Pash.
The commendation is awarded annually to those exceptional veterans who have contributed in an exemplary manner to the care and well-being of veterans; and/or to the remembrance of the contributions, sacrifices and achievements of veterans.
The commendation is intended primarily for veterans, but in rare circumstances may be awarded to non-veterans. The commendation may also be awarded posthumously.
