Organized by the National Gallery of Canada, this exhibition pays homage to a modern-day master whose compelling work has led him to achieve national and international acclaim.
Best known for the development of the Woodland School of painting, Norval Morrisseau’s career of nearly fifty years has been marked by transformations that have earned him the title shaman artist. This exhibition documents Morrisseau’s progression as an artist, charting the creative and spiritual journey that would contribute to his unique style of painting. Included in the show are approximately 50 works of his early scrapings, paintings, and painted objects, many of which have rarely or never before been displayed.
