PART XI – INSTRUCTION AT HOME

Definition of Home Instruction:

641.00 This part outlines the procedures to be followed when parents indicate, in writing, their intention not to register or to withdraw a child from school for the purpose of providing instruction at home.

641.01 The procedure to follow when parents wish to provide instruction at home:

  1. a member notifies the Outside Canada Support Unit Approving Authority of intent to provide instruction at home in writing using Form 9HSI - Intent to Provide Education Instruction at Home;

  2. home instruction is provided in accordance with a Provincial Home Schooling Program; and

  3. an "education plan" is provided to Outside Canada Support Unit Approving Authority

641.02 The "Education Plan" must be submitted to the Outside Canada Support Unit Approving Authority and forwarded to NDHQ/DCBA 5/DEM. The Education Plan will include:

  1. An instructional plan, regularly planned instructional time, and a daily work schedule;

  2. List subjects being taught;

  3. Outline curriculum being used i.e. Ontario, Nova Scotia

  4. Documents used to support the curriculum;

  5. Describe the typical kinds of activities provided to home-schooling student;

  6. Provide samples of child's work in each subject;

  7. Outline types of materials being used; (encyclopedias, texts, magazines, internet, television programs, etc);

  8. What techniques are used to access learning;

  9. List community resources, if any, used.

641.03 An education allowance for instruction at home (admissible education expense) up to the post ceiling, or, where a post ceiling has not been established, the Ontario non-resident school fee.

Note 1:  Education allowance to be requested on: Form 9HSE - Education Instruction at Home admissible expense.

Note 2:  Admissible items are listed at Part 1 article 609.00

Note 3:  Purchase or rental of computer equipment would be a non-admissible expense.

641.04 The Outside Canada Support Unit Approving Authority is responsible for maintaining an education file on each student receiving instruction at home.
