The Government of Canada today announced that a State Funeral will be held for the late The Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn

The Government of Canada today announced that a State Funeral will be held for the late The Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn, P.C., C.C., C.M.M., C.D., Q.C., Canada's Governor General from 1990 to 1995.

The State Funeral will take place at Christ Church Cathedral, in Ottawa, on December 23 at 2 p.m. Further details, including those for a lying-in-state, will be issued to the media as they become available.

The National Flag of Canada will be flown at half-mast on the Peace Tower in Ottawa and on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada until sunset on the day of the funeral.

Canadians wishing to send messages of condolence can do so on a special Web site of the Department of Canadian Heritage to be launched later today at: www.commemoration.gc.ca
