Wayne Easter Announces Funding for the Indian River Festival and the Rendez-Vous Rustico

KENSINGTON, March 15, 2002 -- On behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, Wayne Easter, Member of Parliament (Malpeque), today announced funding of $17,745 to the 7th edition of the Indian River Festival, in Kensington and $6,000 to the 9th edition of the Rendez-vous Rustico, in Rustico, Prince Edward Island.

"I am pleased to announce the funding of two major cultural events in the Atlantic region which have always been quite popular with the Island's residents and visitors," said Mr. Easter. "Together, we are building a dynamic and rich cultural sector, which is culturally diverse."

The Department of Canadian Heritage has provided funding to the Indian River Festival and to the Rendez-vous Rustico under the Cultural Initiatives Program (CIP). This is the last fiscal year during which applications to CIP will be considered. Festivals previously eligible can submit a request under the Arts Presentation Canada program.

Funding for these projects was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
