Lawrence O'Brien Announces Funding for the Labrador Creative Arts Festival

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, March 15, 2002 -- On behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, Member of Parliament (Labrador) Lawrence O'Brien today announced funding of $10,000 for the 27th Labrador Creative Arts Festival, in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador.

"This funding clearly demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to supporting access to the arts; fostering excellence, diversity and creativity; and increasing the stability of the arts sector," said Mr. O'Brien.

The Department of Canadian Heritage has provided funding under the Cultural Initiatives Program (CIP). This is the last fiscal year during which applications to CIP will be considered. Festivals previously eligible can submit a request under the Arts Presentation Canada program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
