The Government of Canada Announces Funding to Village Theatre West

HUDSON, July 9, 2002 -- Nick Discepola, Member of Parliament (Vaudreuil-Soulanges), today announced, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, funding of $10,000 to Village Theatre West.

"The Government of Canada is proud to be associated with an organization that supports professional theatre outside large urban centres," said Mr. Discepola. "I wish to commend the remarkable work of Village Theatre West, which attracts ever wider audiences with quality productions."

Village Theatre West presents professional productions of English-language plays and also offers the community a program of live performances by renowned artists from across Canada, contributing to the dynamism and artistic diversity of the Hudson region.

The Department of Canadian Heritage provides this financial support through its Arts Presentation Canada program. The objective of this program is to provide Canadians with greater opportunities to discover the cultural wealth and diversity of Canada through increased access to arts festivals, performances and other art forms.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
