The Government of Canada Announces Financial Support to the Coopérative de développement culturel de Chicoutimi

CHICOUTIMI, July 10, 2002 -- André Harvey, Member of Parliament (Chicoutimi - Le Fjord), and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, announced today on behalf of Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage, funding of $40,000 to the Coopérative de développement culturel de Chicoutimi for its next cultural season.

"The government of Canada is proud to support an organization that offers performances featuring professional artists in various disciplines: song, dance, music and theatre," stated Mr. Harvey. "Thanks to the exemplary work of the employees of the Coopérative, the population of Chicoutimi and surrounding communities is able to attend numerous performances from across Canada."

The Coopérative de développement culturel de Chicoutimi is active in many aspects of the performing arts including modern and classical dance as well as jazz and francophone music shows. Patrons can attend these performances of professional caliber throughout the extensive cultural season.

The Department of Canadian Heritage provided this financial support through its Arts Presentation Canada (APC) program. The objective of the APC program is to provide Canadians with greater opportunities to discover the cultural wealth and diversity of Canada, through increased access to professional artistic festivals, professional performances or any other art form proposed by arts presenters.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
