The Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Comité des Spectacles de Dolbeau

DOLBEAU, August 7, 2002 -- André Harvey, Member of Parliament (Chicoutimi-Le Fjord), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $10,000 for the Comité des Spectacles de Dolbeau Inc., to help finance its 2002-2003 activities.

"I am pleased to announce this funding for a major cultural resource in our region," said Mr. Harvey. "We can be proud of this locally based group, which, for years, has been committed to making the performing arts accessible for everyone in the Dolbeau-Mistassini region."

This financial assistance will allow the Comité des Spectacles de Dolbeau to present a wide variety of professional shows to a larger audience. The Comité will promote shows for young people and seniors, in particular. Artists from other provinces will also be featured.

For 22 years, the Comité des Spectacles de Dolbeau has promoted the performing arts in the Dolbeau-Mistassini region. Its goal is to promote professional shows that feature all the performing arts, including theatre, classical music, song and comedy.

Financial assistance is being provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage, through the Arts Presentation Canada program. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
