The Government of Canada is Proud to Support Les Amants de la Scène

SAINT-GEORGES DE BEAUCE, October 9, 2002 -- The Honourable Claude Drouin, Secretary of State (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec) and Member of Parliament (Beauce), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, announced funding of $30,000 for arts presenter Les Amants de la scène, to fund more diverse programming for the 2002-2003 arts season.

"I am delighted to announce this funding for arts presenter Les Amants de la scène, which acts as a cultural animator of importance to the region," said Mr. Drouin. "We can be proud of this arts presenter, who will now be able to increase the number of performances and offer a more varied program of activities to satisfy a broader audience."

Les Amants de la scène is a multidisciplinary presenter that has been in operation since 1986. It is recognized as being very active in Quebec. It offers a performing arts program of professional performances in both urban and rural centres in the Beauce.

This funding will allow the presenter to improve and increase its regular annual programming, more specifically by adding performances by Canadian artists from outside Quebec and performances for young people.

Financial assistance is being provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage, through its Arts Presentation Canada program. The objective of this program is to provide Canadians with greater opportunities to discover the cultural wealth and diversity of Canada, through increased access to professional artistic festivals, professional performances and other cultural products.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
