The Government of Canada is Proud to Support Vues d'Afrique

MONTREAL, November 1, 2002 -- Lucienne Robillard, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament
(Westmount -- Ville-Marie), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $37,325 in funding for Vues d'Afrique, to help finance its project to improve its financial and organizational management.

"It is more important than ever to help Canadians discover the cultural wealth and diversity of our country," said Ms. Robillard. "I am therefore particularly proud to contribute to the modernization and sustainability of Vues d'Afrique's unique and important mission."

The twelve-month project will help reinforce the organizational efficiency of Vues d'Afrique and improvement its financial management. The organization will benefit from the advice of consultants to draw up a long-term strategic plan, as well as a new business plan.

Vues d'Afrique has worked to develop and promote cultural exchanges between Africa and Canada since 1984. It has undertaken many initiatives, particularly in dance, music and film, to raise the general public's awareness of African and Creole cultures.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program. Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
