The Government of Canada Supports Muni Spec Mont-Laurier Activities

MONT-LAURIER, November 21, 2002 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced financial support $90,000 to the City of Mont-Laurier to support its Muni Spec Mont-Laurier activities in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004.

"The vitality of flair of Muni Spec Mont-Laurier make it a model in its community," said Minister Copps. "My congratulations to the Muni Spec Mont-Laurier team for its longstanding enthusiasm in promoting the wealth of Canadian cultural diversity to its audiences."

This financial support will be $45,000 annually for two years. It will be dedicated to enriching and diversifying this multi-disciplinary centre's activities, including the addition of a classical music and dance program supported by promotional activities. The project will also encourage the public, youth in particular, to visit cultural institutions. Master classes for music and dance students will be organized, and a package called "Accès-Soir de Théâtre" will be offered to youth along with a form encouraging them to subscribe.

Muni Spec Mont-Laurier is a cultural organization governed by the City of Mont-Laurier. Its goal is to offer residents a rich and accessible performing arts program.

The Department of Canadian Heritage has provided this funding as part of its Arts Presentation Canada program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
