The Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Carleton Maximum Blues Festival

CARLETON, December 19, 2002 -- Georges Farrah, Member of Parliament (Bonaventure-Gaspé-Îles-de-la-Madeleine-Pabok), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $15,000 in funding for the 11th Maximum Blues Music Festival, to be held in Carleton, from August 7 to 11, 2003.

"I am proud to announce this funding for a local organization that brings musical excitement to the entire Gaspé region every August," said Mr. Farrah. "I would like to thank the organizers and volunteers whose energy and commitment enrich the region's cultural life."

The Carleton Maximum Blues Festival is a large cultural and tourism event. The Festival features more than 60 blues music performances by artists from across Canada and beyond. Many other activities are organized, as well.

The Festival is coordinated by Carleton Maximum Blues, a non-profit organization incorporated in 1997, whose goals are to promote and expose blues music in all its forms and variations.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
