The Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Vieux Clocher de Magog

MAGOG, December 20, 2002 -- Denis Paradis, Member of Parliament (Brome-Missisquoi), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $38,000 for the Vieux Clocher de Magog, to help finance its 2003-2004 season.

"It is more important than ever to support organizations that experiment with new artistic trends and promote creativity among artists from across Canada," said Mr. Paradis. "I am particularly pleased to announce this funding for a top Eastern Townships venue for creativity and promotion. I would like to thank the members of this organization for providing Canadians with entertainment rich in new talent and discovery."

This funding will help diversify programming for the Vieux Clocher de Magog's 2003-2004 season. New musical niches will be explored in order to attract a larger audience. The program will include a jazz and blues series and the return of an acoustic festival featuring artists from several provinces.

Founded in 1981, the Vieux Clocher de Magog is a venue where musical and comedy shows are created and performed. Its goal is to highlight new artists and to encourage creativity. It also serves as a recognized location for introducing regional tours by renowned artists.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
