The Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Orford Arts Centre .Y.M.C.

ORFORD, January 20, 2003 -- Denis Paradis, Secretary of State for Latin America and Africa, and the Francophonie and Member of Parliament (Brome-Missisquoi), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $55,000 in funding for the Orford Arts Centre Y.M.C., to help finance the 2003 edition of Festival Orford.

"The Orford Arts Centre is a prestigious establishment that has become a symbol of Canadian excellence in teaching and quality musical performances," said Mr. Paradis. "Every year, the Festival enriches our cultural life and allows us to discover major artistic works in a pleasant setting."

The Arts Centre, created in 1951, is dedicated to music instruction and concert performances. Festival Orford is an important part of the organization's mandate to provide varied artistic performances.

The 2003 Festival Orford will offer more than 35 professional concerts, highlighting renowned artists from Canada and beyond. Performances are varied, and include the Grand Masters Series, with internationally famed performers, as well as the Music Plus Series, presenting multidisciplinary activities in music, dance, theatre, literature, circus and cinema.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
