Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Théâtre Nouvel-Ontario Inc. and for the Concerts La Nuit sur l'étang

SUDBURY, March 17, 2002 -- Diane Marleau, Member of Parliament (Sudbury), on behalf the Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $100,000 for the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario Inc. and of $20,000 for the Concerts
La Nuit sur l'étang.

"The Government of Canada is committed to support access to the arts for all Canadians, and to foster creativity, diversity, and excellence," said Ms. Marleau. "We also help ensure that arts organizations can attain some stability so they can focus on what they do best: create great shows and works of art."

Théâtre du Novel-Ontario is in its 32nd season in 2003. This year's programming will include concerts, seminars, workshops, and a mini-festival. All these activities celebrate the French language.

Concerts La Nuit sur l'étang will continue its 30-year tradition of programming that includes theatre and house concerts, as well as a St. Jean Baptiste celebration. Venues include Collège Boréal and Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. Arts Presentation Canada seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters

Funding for these initiatives was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
