Government of Canada Announces funding to the Montreal High Lights Festival

MONTRÉAL, June 16, 2003 -- Yvon Charbonneau, Member of Parliament (Anjou-Rivières-des-Prairies), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $34,000 in funding for the fifth edition of the Montreal High Lights Festival, to be held in February 2004.

"I am pleased to announce funding for this exceptional and spectacular Festival," said Mr. Charbonneau. "Congratulations to the event organizers and volunteers who make February evenings in Montréal so lively."

The funds will help support dance, theatre, and musical performances as part of the Stella Artois Arts Series of performing arts. Festival-goers will be able to attend a variety of cultural events showcasing Canadian and international artists, on outdoor stages and indoor venues throughout the city.

The Montreal High Lights Festival's mission is to hold an annual winter festival of international scope devoted to the performing arts, as well as gastronomical, sport, and family events.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada Program.

Funding for this event was provided for in the 2003 federal budget.
