The Government of Canada is proud to support the Société de développement culturel de l'Estran

PETITE-VALLÉE, June 30, 2003 -- Georges Farrah, Member of Parliament (Bonaventure Gaspé Îles-de-la-Madeleine Pabok), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $50,000 in funding for the Société de développement culturel de l'Estran, the organization responsible for the Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée. The funds will help finance the Society's "Passe par chez nous 2003-2004" project.

"I am very pleased to support this organization, which promotes and celebrates French-language music throughout the region," said Mr. Farrah. "Over the next year, we will be able to discover new talents and hear from the best French-language artists from across Canada and around the world."

As well as presenting the Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée, the Société de développement culturel de l'Estran (SOCLE) also provides year-round cultural activities on various stages across the region. The "Passe par chez nous 2003-2004" project is intended to diversify the presentation of arts events, providing a rich program that will welcome even more artists from French communities beyond Quebec. This year, the Society will present 39 shows, four of which are exclusively for youth.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada Program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal budget.
