Government of Canada Proud to be Associated with 36th Québec City Summer Festival

QUEBEC CITY, July 3, 2003 -- Claude Duplain, Member of Parliament (Portneuf), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $150,000 for the Québec City Summer Festival. This large-scale festival's 36th season will be held from July 3 to 13, 2003, in Québec City.

"I am pleased to announce this financial support to a festival that welcomes an increasing number of Canadians each year," said Mr. Duplain. "My congratulations to the artists, organizers, and volunteers that have turned this event into a highlight of the summer holiday season."

The Festival offers the public a unique opportunity to meet internationally renowned musicians and up-and-coming artists, and to hear an incredible variety of music. With 400 shows presenting more than 800 artists from Canada and 20 other countries, the 36th edition is sure to thrill any music lover.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. The goal of this program is to give Canadians more access to diverse, high-quality artistic expression through the support of presenters of arts festivals, performing arts series, and other artistic experiences.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
