Government of Canada proud to support the Francofolies de Montréal

MONTRÉAL, July 24, 2003 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced $75 000 in funding to the 15th edition of the Francofolies de Montréal, to be held from July 24 to August 2.

"I'm very pleased to support this wonderful celebration of French song," Minister Copps said. "The festival is an outstanding opportunity for all Canadians to discover new talent and enjoy the greatest French-language singers from Canada and around the world."

The 15th edition of the Francofolies de Montréal will showcase close to 1000 French-speaking musicians from Canada and around the world, across the entire musical spectrum. More than 150 outdoor shows will be presented free of charge, to the great enjoyment of French-language music enthusiasts.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada Program.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the 2003 federal budget.
