Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Indian River Festival Association

KENSINGTON, August 1, 2003 -- Wayne Easter, Solicitor General of Canada and Member of Parliament (Malpeque), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $15,000 to the Indian River Festival Association Inc.

"Festivals and cultural events bring Canadians together," said Mr. Easter. "Each year, thousands of tourists come to Prince Edward Island to take part in cultural activities and to discover emerging and established artists from the province, Canada, and all over the world. The Government of Canada is proud to support events that contribute to the cultural development of all citizens."

The funding will allow the group to expand the size, and increase and develop the organizational effectiveness of the Indian River Festival.

Financial support is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Capacity Building component of its Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program. The Program seeks to foster modern management practices and increased stability for arts and heritage organizations. It helps strengthen the cultural sectors in Canadian communities within which cultural organizations operate.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
