Government of Canada is Proud to Support Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal

MONTRÉAL, August 26, 2003 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced funding of $40,000 for the eighth edition of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal, which will take place from September 4 to October 28, 2003.

"I am proud to support this significant cultural event dedicated to promoting photography from Quebec and across Canada," said Minister Copps. "I would like to congratulate the organizers and volunteers whose work and professionalism have made Montréal one of the foremost centres of contemporary photography in Canada."

Under the theme "Now. Images of Present Time," the eighth edition of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal allows the public to discover the quality and richness of Canadian photography. A variety of different exhibits will be shown across the city, especially in cultural, artistic, and exhibition centres; galleries; and museums.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada Program. The objective of this program is to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
