Government of Canada is proud to be associated with the Festival Orgue et couleurs

MONTRÉAL, September 9, 2003 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced funding of $25,000 for the Festival Orgue et couleurs. The fifth edition of this cultural event dedicated to organ music will take place from September 26 to October 5, 2003 in Montréal.

"I am pleased to announce this financial assistance for an event that pays tribute to church organs, which are such an important source of cultural wealth," said Minister Copps. "I would like to congratulate the artists, organizers, and volunteers that make this event a great meeting place for so many Canadians."

The festival's program includes more than 30 different activities. The organ is the main instrument used throughout the Festival Orgue et couleurs, which features sacred music while also embracing other musical styles. Concerts are planned at prestigious sites, including St. Joseph's Oratory, the Notre-Dame Basilica, and the Christ Church Cathedral.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada Program. The objective of this Program is to give Canadians more access to diverse, high-quality artistic expression through the support of presenters of arts festivals, performing arts series, and other artistic experiences.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
