Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Redpath Museum

MONTREAL, September 15, 2003 -- Lucienne Robillard, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament (Westmount Ville-Marie), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $25,000 in funding to the Redpath Museum to develop an integrated financing plan and promotional strategy.

"The Government of Canada has made it a priority to ensure the financial stability of cultural and heritage organizations," Ms. Robillard said. "I am therefore very pleased to announce this support which will help the Redpath Museum better prepare its future."

Following renovations to its permanent exhibition rooms, the Museum will review its funding approach and promotional strategy to diversify its sources of revenue through a fully integrated plan. It also plans to create new promotional tools to attract a wider audience, generate more revenue, and increase Museum membership.

The Redpath Museum is one of the oldest museums in Canada. Established in 1882, its mission is to preserve and promote significant scientific collections in the fields of botany, entomology, palaeontology, geology and archaeology.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Capacity Building component of the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 budget.
