Government of Canada Supports the Montréal International Centre of Contemporary Art

MONTRÉAL, September 15, 2003 -- Lucienne Robillard, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament (Westmount Ville-Marie), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $27,800 for the Montréal International Centre of Contemporary Art.

"Cultural organizations play a fundamental role in our society and deserve our support in order to acquire the necessary tools to focus more closely on their cultural missions," said Minister Robillard. "I am very proud to announce this support to the Montréal International Centre of Contemporary Art, which will allow it to improve its developmental planning."

The Montréal International Centre of Contemporary Art will use these funds to draft a three-year strategy. The organization will re-examine its organizational structure to make it more stable and efficient, and will equip itself with modern financial tools.

Founded in 1983, the Montréal International Centre of Contemporary Art organizes exhibitions and contemporary art events, such as the Biennale de Montréal. It also displays works by professional artists from Quebec, Canada, and beyond.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Capacity Building for Heritage Organizations component of the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
