Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Frostbite Music Society

WHITEHORSE, October 9, 2003 -- Larry Bagnell, Member of Parliament (Yukon), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $21,000 for the Frostbite Music Society, a non-profit organization that produces the annual Frostbite Music Festival.

"The Frostbite Music Festival has a long tradition of showcasing great musical talent from within the Yukon and across Canada," said Mr. Bagnell. "The Government of Canada is proud to support music festivals in communities large and small, and this funding for the 26th annual festival is an example of our continuing commitment toward developing diverse Canadian talent for Canadian audiences."

A variety of musical styles, including jazz, folk, world beat and First Nations, will be featured at the 2004 Frostbite Music Festival, to be held over three days next February. Musicians from the Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec will present performances and workshops for audiences in venues throughout Whitehorse.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Arts Presentation Canada program. This program was established to give Canadians more access to direct expreriences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professionnal arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
