Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Osborne Village Cultural Centre

WINNIPEG, October 9, 2003 -- Anita Neville, Member of Parliament (Winnipeg South Centre), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $27,868 for the Osborne Village Cultural Centre Inc. (OVCC), to help finance an organizational assessment and develop a three-year strategic plan and one-year business plan.

"The Government of Canada is committed to supporting cultural organizations to improve the ways in which they plan, organize, finance, and govern themselves," said Ms. Neville. "The Osborne Village Cultural Centre is to be commended for their efforts in this regard and for their tremendous work in presenting a range of vibrant cultural products to our community."

The OVCC will apply these funds toward an initiative entitled "Strategy Development and Implementation," which will seek to assess the organization's needs, evaluate current fundraising and marketing programs, identify new opportunities, and set goals for the future growth of the organization. In recent years, OVCC has emerged as a dynamic and innovative arts presenter through such annual events as the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival and the Improv Festival.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Capacity Building for Arts Organizations component of the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program. This national program's objective of CAHSP is to support modern management and greater financial stability in Canadian arts and heritage organizations. This national program improves conditions for cultural organizations in local Canadian communities.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
