Government of Canada Announces Financial Support for the Baie-Saint-Paul Exhibition Centre

OTTAWA, October 17, 2003 -- Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice, Attorney General of Canada, Minister with political responsability for Quebec and Member of Parliament (Outremont), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced $34 370 in funding for the Baie-Saint-Paul Exhibition Centre to assist with the planning and development of new funding and revenue-diversification strategies.

"Cultural organizations deserve our support to consolidate their finances to better focus on their cultural role," Minister Cauchon said. "I am thrilled to announce this funding to the Baie-Saint-Paul Exhibition Centre, allowing it to better plan its development."

The funding will allow the creation and implementation of a permanent fundraising structure, leading to more significant non-governmental income sources and better planning for the Centre's future.

Renowned for its arts activities and the quality of its contemporary exhibitions, the Centre also hosts the annual Baie-Saint-Paul International Contemporary Art Symposium.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Capacity Building component of the Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal budget.
