Government of Canada announces funding for the Vue sur la relève festival

MONTRÉAL, November 26, 2003 -- Pierre Pettigrew, Minister for International Trade and Member of Parliament (Papineau Saint-Denis), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $25,000 for Créations Etc., to support the 9th edition of Vue sur la relève. This performing arts festival will take place from March 24 to April 4, 2004 at the Maison de la culture Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc Extension in Montréal.

"I am very pleased to announce Government of Canada support for an organization that has demonstrated, over the years, how artistic creativity can be used by emerging artists to reach their full potential in their social and professional lives," said Minister Pettigrew. "I would like to thank the festival organizers for their efforts to make the performing arts accessible to a broader audience."

Vue sur la relève, a truly multi-disciplinary festival, showcases the talents of up-and-coming professional artists from Quebec and French-speaking Canada. Organized annually since 1996 by Créations Etc., in co-operation with the Ville de Montréal, this festival includes more than 20 shows and provides audiences with a contemporary program of dance, theatre, story, music, and song.

Créations Etc., a non-profit organization, presents this festival in order to give young artists the opportunity to break into the professional arts, present artistic works in optimum technical and professional conditions, and form close links with other professionals in the performing arts.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada Program. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
