Government of Canada announces funding for the centre des arts de la scène Pauline-Julien

MONTRÉAL, December 06, 2003 -- Bernard Patry, Member of Parliament (Pierrefonds Dollard), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $50,000 for the Centre des arts de la scène Pauline-Julien, to support its 2004-2005 programming.

"One of the Government of Canada's priorities is to increase the number of Canadians who have access to culture and the arts," said Mr. Patry. "I am delighted to announce this financial support for an organization that works tirelessly to offer a wide variety of artistic events."

The funds will allow the Centre des arts de la scène Pauline-Julien to develop a diversified program for 2004-2005, and organize performing arts awareness activities that target school groups. Audiences will also have the opportunity to attend shows featuring classical, world, and jazz music, as well as theatre and dance performances.

The Centre, whose mission is to attract interest in French-language performing arts, is an important performance venue for Montréal's West Island. The organization's involvement in several well-known promotional networks has been a key factor in the successful tours of artists from Quebec, the rest of Canada, and abroad.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada Program. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.

Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
