Government of Canada Supports the 6th Festival Orgue et couleurs

MONTRÉAL, September 2, 2004 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Liza Frulla, today announced $25,000 in funding for the sixth Orgue et couleurs fall festival, which will take place in Montréal from September 24 to October 3, 2004.

"This Festival makes a bold and innovative contribution to Montréal and the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve area's cultural and economic vitality," said Minister Frulla. "Our Government is proud to support this cultural event which allows local residents, visitors and tourists to attend quality performances and to discover new musical trends."

The sixth Orgue et couleurs fall festival will present more than 100 artists in six different locations, including the Château Dufresne, Église Saint-Nom-de-Jésus and Église Très-Saint-Rédempteur. This musical celebration will also feature special events, such as tribute concerts to composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier and in a commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the prestigious organ-building firm, Casavant Frères.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. This program seeks to give Canadians direct access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, live professional performances and other artistic endeavours by arts presenters. It is part of the Tomorrow Starts Today initiative, which has been renewed for a fourth year with
$207 million in funding.

Funding for this initiative was forecast in the March 2004 federal Budget.
