Government of Canada supports O Vertigo Danse

MONTRÉAL, December 14, 2004 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $254,175 in support for the O Vertigo Danse company. The funds will help the company set up a new creative centre in downtown Montréal's Place des Arts, as well as provide it with the latest equipment.

"For two decades, O Vertigo Danse has held a leading place on Canada's cultural scene," said Minister Frulla. "I am delighted that our government is able to help the company continue its work in a centre for creation and innovation. I am convinced that all lovers of dance will benefit from this investment, which will enable the company to fully realize its artistic potential."

Founded in 1984, O Vertigo Danse presents innovative dance performances all over Canada and the world. The company also offers workshops, conferences and seminars, along with dance-related educational activities.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Cultural Spaces Canada program. The program supports cultural infrastructure projects to increase Canadians' access to performing arts, visual arts, media arts and exhibitions, as well as to improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and innovation. Cultural Spaces Canada is part of the Tomorrow Starts Today initiative, which has been renewed for a fourth year with funding of $207 million.

Funding announced today was provided for in the March 2004 federal budget.
