Minister Frulla Announces Appointment to Canadian Museum of Nature

OTTAWA, June 16, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Melody J. McLeod, of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, as a part-time member of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Nature.

"Ms. McLeod's extensive experience gained in Canada's North will make her a valuable contributor to the Canadian Museum of Nature," said Minister Frulla.

Ms. McLeod was a personnel officer with the Government of the Northwest Territories from 1979 to 1985. She served as Administrator of Akaitcho Hall from 1985 to 1990, and was Director of Staff Training and Development, and Professional Teachers Development from 1990 to 1991. She was Director of Human Resources and Ancillary Services at the Stanton Regional Hospital from 1991 to 1996. Since 1998, she has served as Official Languages Coordinator for the Department of Education, Culture and Employment with the Government of the Northwest Territories.

She is actively involved in her community, having served as Vice-Chair of the Stanton Regional Hospital and as a Founding Board Member of the Western Arctic Leadership Program in Fort Smith.

The Canadian Museum of Nature is an important federal cultural organization dedicated to increasing interest in, knowledge of, and appreciation and respect for our natural environment throughout Canada and the world.
