MONTRÉAL, July 28, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $75,000 in funding for the 17th edition of the FrancoFolies de Montréal, which takes place from July 28 to August 6, 2005.

"I am pleased to support this extraordinary celebration of French song," said Minister Frulla. "I encourage all Montréalers and Canadians to come to the FrancoFolies in Montréal this summer, where they can enjoy the music of established and emerging French-language singers from Canada and around the world."

More than 1,000 Canadian and international Francophone artists take part in this large-scale cultural event, which includes close to 200 free indoor and outdoor shows.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. The program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
